Activity Streams - can it be simplified?

Featured Replies

We've recently migrated from 3.4.x to 4.1. I really like the Activity Streams feature in v4 but this opinion is not shared across our community.

Is there any way to simplify Activity Streams for all users by default so that it functions more like View New Content in 3.x or can we configure the default functionality? (e.g. sorting) I appreciate it is a conceptual design change but we need to address it within our community.

Thank you

Rich

What exactly are you trying to do?

You can configure the default activity streams yourself.  I created a New Content stream for my community.

We're just trying to replicate VNC functionality as best as possible as some of our members have found it difficult to configure Activity Streams though personally I have had no issues with it. Some of our members are less tech savvy so we need to accommodate them.

How can the default activity streams be configured so it's rolled out to all users by default? That's what I'm looking to achieve while retaining the option for it to be customised should they wish.

Cheers

Sorry to bump - but can anyone confirm how to change the activity steams seen by members, and what the default steam is?

Yes you can create an Activity Stream just like the old VNC in v3.

Just create one that shows unread and select "Content Items Only" in the filter. You can also specify condensed by default in v4.1.19 when it's out.

How do you do this so that all members see it. I presume it is somewhere in the ACP but hunting high and low returns no dice!

That's even better news, if a shame you can do it now. The amount screen space used and hence the amount of scrolling required is one of our members major gripes about the new skin, both on a computer and a tablet/mobile.

When is 4.1.19 due out?

Thanks

Daniel

If I understand correctly, you already can do that with a plugin:

It is in AdminCP - System - Content Discovery - Streams. Create a new one as described and set it as default and it will show in the upper right hand corner.

Awesome. We will look into that. Thanks.

Ah, that works too.
