Hello all,

some time ago I had a member of this community set me up a front page, this was great initially but time constraints prevent me from keeping it populated with new information and now I would like to remove it..

coupd somone please tell me how I do that? When I disable the front page it effect my URL landing page and new visitors get a 404.. 

You need to pick a new homepage (from the core or Pages), but NOT one from a different app like Forums, Gallery, Blogs or Commerce. 
Make that decision first, then we can tell you how to achieve it.

Yes, but that also changes all URLs, e.g. from the forum.

You're using pages? If so you will need to refer to this Guide and put settings back
