Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
craigf136 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I enquired with host company today if we could enable xcache on our VPS service, as it's not available by default with them (hostgator) - they informed me that xcache isn't compatible with ioncube loader and we would need to disable ioncube loader. Unfortunately we need the ioncube loader and we are going to be purchasing IP Nexus in the near future also. Running ioncube loader v4.6.1, php 5.4.29 - I've read that xcache does and doesn't support ioncube v2 of xcache did support it and I read we would need to run v2 of xcache but that was posted in 2012 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ius/+bug/1088667/comments/5 The question is, can we run both of them together and what version of xcache/ioncube would we need to run? Hopefully someone will have the answer and be able to assist?
Rhett Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 This has been reported as fixed and is working in the latest version of xcache 3.1.0 according to reports. I have not personally tested the latest version, however since you are on hostgator, it would be up to them to fix this for you.
Grumpy Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 You could install memcache and only use the user cache portion and not use the op cache part.
craigf136 Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 This is the response I received from Hostgator, they are saying installing this on a VPS server is highly discouraged, I'm not sure I fully understand why this would be the case? I mentioned that it was apparently fixed in v3.0.1 and that further changes made in v3.1.0 but that Hostgator would be installing v3.0.3 Thank you for contacting HostGator. I apologize for our delayed response. Unfortunately we have been experiencing a high number of support requests and are working to respond to each one as quickly as possible. If we were to install xcache it would be version 3.03 as this is the version currently available for compile via cPanel's EasyApache. I would like to note that this form of opcode caching is highly discouraged to run on a VPS container as there are some issues with compatibility. Please let us know if you have additional questions or concerns, and we'll be glad to assist.
Grumpy Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Hostgator basically installs the version cpanel provides. And I guess 3.0.3 is the latest cpanel provides. This is typical, not having the latest version in their repo.
Gabriel Torres Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I use Xcache 3.1.0 with ioncube without any issues. I manage my own servers.
