Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted September 29, 201212 yr Ip board is so advanced then other forums in many ways but one item is still the same from the start while other communities try to adapt to this feature but they are far from perfect with it. I think ip will be able to shine here. I'm talking about having the ability to style your site with out editing the css templates. Upgrades are often to be released and the average end user doesn't code so they don't understand how to use the hook system. There should be a section under look and feel just for this. It could be as simple as having a blank template where the user can add css to this template that will over ride the main css. Or it can be very advance where you have a whole section for css settings that is easy to style each css. This section should break down into header, body and footer so it's organize and easy to find each style. So if I want to change the color of the navigation menu I can do so by entering the value or use a color picker. Or if I want to I can change the menu items to have a rounded corner instead of square. This makes styling your site so easy instead of searching through a template with a 1,000 lines of code you need to go through just to make a few changes and this needs to be done with every upgrade.
September 29, 201212 yr Isn't that what the virtual editor already do!? Don't mean to put you down or anything, but you can already edit stuff using the new editor. Unless your talking about the style elements and images, that has to be done manually. Unless your talking about an entire new web interface, that will take a bit of awhile to do. I don't believe IPS is going to do that in the 4.x era, perhaps 5.x era :P
September 29, 201212 yr Author I'm talking about the style elements. If I want to change the look of the navigation bar a little say for example or change the height of the header, etc. Vb, I don't know if you ever used their forum or not but they have this section called stylevars which to be honest, half of them don't even work, it's buggy, they never finished completing the stylevars. Here is an example below of their poor system. I think if ip add element edits to their visual skin editor would be good. I did play around with the visual skin editor, I really like the set up, it takes the guess work right out. With vb you have to know every element and you have to go back to the forum to see if you like the change you made or if your even changing the right element.
September 30, 201212 yr IP.Board already has something like that actually, it's called "Visual Skin Editor":
September 30, 201212 yr Author IP.Board already has something like that actually, it's called "Visual Skin Editor": http://community.inv...al-skin-editor/ Yes, but that is only for color. I can't change any elements. Like have 0 padding for ips box or have rounded corners for the menu items, etc. You know what I mean?
September 30, 201212 yr Oh okay, I see what you mean now. Basically you want an "expanded" VSE which works not only for colors but more things (like padding and margins). It would be better to move this topic in the Feedback section rather than Client Lounge.
