Yeah, is your forum running 3.2?

I did the test on 3.3.4.

Interesting, I take it you made sure a post was made in between each time you tried to run the query? Otherwise it would be stored in the query cache and run very quickly, producing skewed results.

This patch really did the trick on our site !!! Thanks Peter

Here's the previously staff-only Tracker issue which now seems to be open to the public.

This contains what I presume will be the official fix for the problem. Ultimately, it's exactly the same way I did it, using a nested subquery to grab the posts first, so if you've already implemented my solution I personally wouldn't bother changing to this one unless you really want to, it will be done when you upgrade to 3.4 anyway.

I've just applied that patch, hope it will help us because we are dealing with serious downtimes. Tech support think it's a 3rd party issue, but it occurs even on Performance Mode. Using 3.3.4
Thanks Peter for your help!

I have tried it as well.

No more MySQL query flood since this patch has been applied. It's amazing, we were dealing with that issue for several weeks, thanks again Peter!

Our board is now fast, even on heavy traffic, this patch should be "officialized"

There's already an official patch posted in the tracker. No file edits required.

Where can I found it?

There's supposed to be an attachment on the bug report but it's gone.

This issue is fixed with the 3.4 series so if you have a problem with speeds you should open a ticket because it's not this issue.
