Standard editor BBCode buttons

The ability to use the standard editor with buttons will be in the next version of IP.Board as it has been requested frequently.

Is the version of 3.3 now running on this site feature-complete? I don't see any buttons in the standard editor, will this be added before release?

would like to say something once and for all.
While i WOULD 100% LOVE to see this.
http://ckeditor.com/demo
you see any buttons there on source mode?
They have to remake that functionality from square #1 for that to be present(not an easy task, nor one I envy the undertaking of).

Not sure what your point is? As I recall, Matt or another IPS dev said adding the functionality would take "several hours". I wouldn't want to do it myself either, that's why I pay money for IPB.

Matt explicitly said that standard editor buttons would be in the next version. 3.3 is "the next version" and I don't see it yet, hence my question.

The standard editor button feature additions was delayed and will not be in 3.3.

thats really bad :(

Ugh, what's even worse is that they have once again broken the Tab, Enter command to submit posts, as Tabbing in either editor now doesn't move the control focus anymore.

Tabbing actually appears to enter a tabbed space (Safari 5.1.2, Lion). Not sure how it displays, but the spacing appears in the editor. Not sure if this would be a bug or something they've intended....

Word. This should be over on the right.

Edit: Yup, tabs appear in the editor (and on edit), but not actually in the post. Hmm.

Yeah, they do appear in the rich editor, it doesn't appear to do anything in the standard editor which I usually use.

To be honest, a plain textarea would be more functional than the standard mode editor as it stands right now. At least it would wrap words correctly in Chrome, and wouldn't regularly mess up posts by trying to convert back and forth between HTML and BBCode.

I am very disappointed by Charles's statement, but sadly not at all surprised.

Ok.. Will you be able to come with this in 3.3.1 for example? Or give a temporary unofficial version of it posted on the forum immediately when it's done? We're really growing impatient about upgrading. But all the faults and mishaps with the editor is really whats holding us back.

Tabbing is also essential for us, it should go to the reply button. We dont need tab spacing.

We would not be able to add such a large change in a maintenance release like 3.3.1. Implementing up a whole new editor interface is something that would need extensive testing. The whole point of 3.3 is stability and polish which is why our bug tracker is down to basically no open bugs.

It appears in quotes, too.

Saw your post on version 3.4 today and couldn't see the editor mentioned. But it wasn't so much into details in general, anyway, so I guess that's ok. But... Will we see the return of the bbcode-buttons in simple editor soon? I was hoping you would work it into 3.3.4 or something, but guess I'll have to put my faith in 3.4 now?
