Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Wolfie Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 I like the idea of IPS accepting donations for a charity, even though part of the reason was to be able to test and debugger the upcoming IP.Nexus. So what about a monthly charity drive? Charity goes up with a very modest goal (embarrassingly modest, like $100) and stays up for a month. That way, it's easy to reach the goal, people don't feel like they 'have' to help reach the goal, so people can give to those that they want to give to and can help out different charities on an ongoing basis? Mind you, exceeding $100 on each charity would be nice and the more the better, but the idea would be to keep it low enough to reach easily without people dreading the next one that comes up. :) So ideas on this and ideas for charities that could be donated to would be nice. Oh also, it would be constant good PR for IPS to always be raising a few $$ here and there.
Brian Garcia Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 I've asked Charles before if we could do Multiple Sclerosis charity next. So, it seems we are open for ideas.
Alex Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 How about maybe taking a small cut off the T-Shirt sales, such as something as little as 1% and send that to a charity when the sales happen? That could work quite well. If we're doing suggestions, hate suggesting makes me feel bad, but for personal reasons I'd 'vote' the Haemophilia Society - http://www.haemophilia.org.uk/ That said, not overly fussed either way, all charities are good
Fishfish0001 Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 http://www.charitywater.org/ would be a really good one. :)
bfarber Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 How about maybe taking a small cut off the T-Shirt sales, such as something as little as 1% and send that to a charity when the sales happen? That could work quite well. We weren't intending to sell the t-shirts at any sort of profit, so even 1% would have to come out of our accounts in such a scenario, unless we upcharged the t-shirt sales. I think sticking to donations is easier and has less hassle all around.
Mat Barrie Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 One thing my old web host did that was kind of cool, was they'd let you pledge $X (where X > 5) in any given month (not recurring) to any one of a choice of like six charities which got whacked onto your invoice, and then at the end of the month they'd match dollar for dollar every single donation made. Now I get that even though it's a pretty decent PR move and tax writeoff, IPS may not be able to pull off the "dollar for dollar matching" bit. But little things like the option to just add a bit onto your hosting/next renewal would be kind of neat. Especially if not every charity is US centric ;)
Steve H Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I like that idea Mat. While I did donate to the Autism charity it would be nice to see some charities from the UK and other countries that have officially registered charities being catered for.
TestingSomething Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 edit: whatever... not worth the time I spent typing the original post and definitely not worth time going back and forth on it.
