Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
sk8er_boi Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 I can see checkboxes and toolbox in search. But my normal moderators can't see them. My moderators can edit any forums, they are like super mods, but i don't want to make them smods. How can i make them to see this menus?
bfarber Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 You cannot - they only show to "global moderators" (and it sounds like your other moderators are per-forum moderators). This was done because of the permissions complexities involved (what if one topic is in a forum they can moderate and another isn't and so on).
sk8er_boi Posted July 6, 2010 Author Posted July 6, 2010 Can't they be shown to who can see report center maybe?
Biker.GA Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Even the report center is going to have limitations on who can and cannot view it. I went through something similar in trying to give a specialized usergroup access to the report center along with the reports it contained. I managed to get it working, but not without some frustration on my part.
sk8er_boi Posted July 6, 2010 Author Posted July 6, 2010 There was a mod for this in 2.3. This was making my mod's job very easier and now they are suffering from upgrade anxiety and demanding this. Wish i could have it.

This was done because of the permissions complexities involved (what if one topic is in a forum they can moderate and another isn't and so on). Then why not make it so it only shows the checkbox on threads/posts that are in forums you have the ability to moderate, I hate to say this but that's how vBulletin does it and that's how it should work. I don't understand why so many features get tied to "Super Moderator" status and why giving admins more control over moderator permissions is something that seems to get ignored in every release.
Biker.GA Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 There are a lot of things that vBulletin does that probably shouldn't happen. Query creep is not a good thing, and forums were suffering for it.
sk8er_boi Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 I have managed to make checkboxes and dropdown menu visible to mods. But when i try to move, it fails with an error.[#4030] You appear to have submitted an invalid forum. I replaced this<if test="accessreports:|:($this->memberData[ 'g_is_supmod'] == 1 OR ( isset( $this->memberData['access_report_center' ] ) AND $this->memberData['access_report_center' ] ) )"> for <if test="isAdmin:|:$this->memberData['g_is_supmod']"> in search template bits. I believe we can do this.

And a lot of forums suffer from spam problems and need a quick way for moderators to remove or move threads/posts.

I believe we can do this. Your skin template change verifies they can access the report center, but not that they are a forum moderator (what if the user is only a gallery moderator - they could still access report center, but shouldn't be able to moderate topics). Just an FYI.

bfarber Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 In your case, that's fine. We can't release like that though from our standpoint.

Agreed completely.

bfarber Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 This topic shouldn't be in feedback forum actually. Well, this topic is veering in two directions. 1) There is a suggestion here to allow moving topics from search. That is valid feedback. 2) There is also attempts to manually modify the software to do this. Really this separate line of discussion should be in the peer to peer forum.

Yes, it would be good if it was a default option. But you say, this isn't our way to make things, i am seeking a way achieve this. Both kind of help would be welcome
