Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Square Wheels Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Is IPB considering making the code valid (http://validator.w3.org/check)? For instance, the page I am writing this post on claims to have 46 errors.
teraßyte Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 They are still working on templates, anyway IPS staff said they will make everything XHTML valid before the final release (probably in RC1 stage I suppose)
Connor T Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I heard in one post, due to all the nasty hacks for other browsers, that it probably won't be XHTML valid. I could be wrong though.
Terry - AKA Dumbledore Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I don't how its every going to work, with them adding more browsers every day.
Mat Barrie Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Yeah, but some of the HTML errors are just silly and shouldn't have even made it into a BETA - like the task manager image being AFTER the closing <html> tag. In a browser which fully complies to the actual XHTML standard, the browser would refuse to even TRY to render the page after seeing that (since it's invalid XML - heck, it's invalid SGML too!).
henke37 Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 You do know that css also is validated, right? It's just so obvious to claim to have both valid css and valid html.
bfarber Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Yes I do. Firstly, all IE-specific CSS is in a separate file ignored by other browsers - so if all other CSS files did validate, but not the IE one, I personally wouldn't lose any sleep. Secondly, I'm not aware of any non-standard "hacks" in the IE CSS file - just adjusting margins and paddings and that sort of thing to compensate for differences. That said...I don't work on the skin, this is all Rikki's domain. ;)
