SEB [BH] Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Hi, I would like to know : What did happen to actual free lifetime IPB customers ? Is IPB 3 upgrade will be free for them too ? (like IPB2 upgrade) or not ? Thanks in avance for informations and answers. Best Regards
Ziv Grosu Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 ]What did happen to actual free lifetime IPB customers ?Could not understand what you mean but don't worry you will still get-upgrades for life.
sunrisecc Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 In the topic title, it mentions 'perpetual'. In the body of the post, it states 'lifetime'. They are not the same.
Morrigan Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Best thing to do is submit a ticket in your client center to ask.
beeman Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 If you have either a pepetual or lifetime licence you WILL get IPB 3.0 (you'll also get 4.0, 5.0, 6.0 etc). Both pepetual and lifetime licences came with LIFETIME upgrades to the latest version.
CynicalFrost Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 If you have either a pepetual or lifetime licence you WILL get IPB 3.0 (you'll also get 4.0, 5.0, 6.0 etc). Both pepetual and lifetime licences came with LIFETIME upgrades to the latest version. The difference is that Lifetime Licenses will allow you to access IPS Resources, user to user boards, and be able to submit tickets for assistance with your Board installation for... a lifetime lol. Perpetual license will do the same, just that support expired one year after you initially purchased the license. Afterward, you must renew the Support, or access to Resources, user to user boards, etc. will be cut off.

Charging us money to use community-provided resources. >:( Hey IPS, please bump me up to +Customers!

Your support contract must be active to gain access to the customers section. Please submit a ticket if it is, or if you have any other questions.
.Sephiroth. Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Your support contract must be active to gain access to the customers section. Please submit a ticket if it is, or if you have any other questions. Why should we have a support contract to access stuff IPS doesn't support, like modifications, since IPS doesn't support modified boards? I have a perpetual license, I would like to complete my upgrade process, but I cannot, seeing that I am denied access to this resources website, because I apparently need to pay for support, of which IPS won't support due to them not supporting modified boards. What the <censored> gives?
bfarber Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 This topic has been beat to death already. Please search this forum for the topics if you want to see the same answers we've given in the past. :) Effectively, we had NO peer-to-peer section at all. We created one as a value-addon for our customers who decided that after all this time they still wanted to support us through renewed licenses and new purchases. The idea we had was to create a resource site as a collection of things that they may want to utilize - modifications, skins, language packs, peer-to-peer support venues, articles explaining how to do certain things, and so on. It started as IPS Beyond, but was moved back here (the support forums - resources are now at resources.invisionpower.com). Basically, this was never included in your original perpetual license purchase. It was added only a couple years ago, and has always been tied to an active support contract. If you have feedback or questions please don't hesitate to submit a ticket.
beeman Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Effectively, we had NO peer-to-peer section at all. Thats a lie. you DID have p2p section before resources/beyond and pepetual costmers WERE given access to it. The p2p suppors was HERE it wasonly upon intruducing beyond that you banned p2p support on this board ;)

Like, a year or two before hand. There was no peer-to-peer here when I first came on in 2005, and IPS Beyond was a project I worked on after I came on board. So, peer to peer support was here, never as a guaranteed part of the license (as in, your license did not include peer-to-peer support access of any official nature), but was discontinued/shut out long before we had any ideas of doing any sort of resource site. Fair enough compromise? ;)

Olivier Turbis Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 That's bullfaeces. Charging us money to use community-provided resources. >:( Hey IPS, please bump me up to +Customers! Resources here are available on every other good IPB modding/skinning websites.
Mark Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I came on same time as he did. I came also on 05 I don't even remember Seeing P2P Support in 2005. Joined: 21-April 05 I think it might be that you remember people (as they still do now) asking technical support questions in the feedback areas. My joined date is wrong, because of the merged accounts - but I joined in 2003, and I remember them getting rid of the support areas not *too* long after I joined in favour of just using the ticket system.
.Sephiroth. Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Resources here are available on every other good IPB modding/skinning websites. Not everyone that releases things on resources release their stuff elsewhere.
Mark H. Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Not everyone that releases things on resources release their stuff elsewhere. And that's the mod author's decision to make. IPS doesn't hold a gun to their head and demand they release it nowhere else. The vast majority of free mods are available on sites other than IPS Resources. You chose the package you wanted, and accepted the terms under which it was sold to you. IPS is still honoring those terms. I fail to see the validity of your complaint. I haven't needed any support recently, but was happy to renew my support contract in case I did. I consider it to be a $25 semi-annual insurance policy.
Ziv Grosu Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 @ .Sephiroth. As people stated it before. You may use Invisionize.com website to get skins/mods support. That what I know.Lifetime license can get full access to: - upgrades & downloads for life - support for life - peer-to-peer is for life - they don't have to pay 30$Perpetual license can access to: - upgrades & downloads & requests for-life - support in the client center+resources.invisionpower.com / here - 30$ for each year
.Sephiroth. Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 But what I want to know is why the heck we get upgrades for life, and allow us to modify source, not to mention say we should have upgrades for life, but without resources, some forums rely on certain modifications which makes them unique in a certain way. Why is IPS going to block us from modifying the forum core as the license permits?
bfarber Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 We don't block anything "as the license permits". EXACTLY as our license stated, we allow you to receive upgrades for life. That is what the license included, and you will continue to receive upgrades to Invision Power Board under the license which you purchased. Community provided resources were never a part of the license, so your argument is entirely moot. Furthermore, as I just said in the OTHER topic, we've gone over this entirely too many times for entirely too long. If you have further complaints or questions please submit a ticket Attn: Management to discuss this further.
