Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Matt Saunders Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Hi there I run a dance music site and I woul dlove to see the ability for my members to upload there event flyer to the event they add into the calendarIf this is already possible then please people dont be shy on letting me know ;)
¤Neville¤ Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 You could get a custom moder to do that, for a reasonable price, if it really matters.
Matt Saunders Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 I would prefer to see it added to the next release or the next release
Matt Saunders Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Do anyone think that this could be added please. I feel that it would be good if people could attach things to the calendar.
bfarber Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Perhaps, but 2.3 is already locked. We generally don't reply to state if something will be added. If we decide to add it, we will. :)
AndyF Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Does sound like a good idea for a future version at some point (seperate switch for it would be good same as allowing pm attachments etc) :)+1
rakaposhi Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 What sort of Calendar does not allow the addition of attachments!!??c'mon guys, this is an important feature...
TCWT Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Wonder why this was omitted, it's essential to have it.
bfarber Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Wonder why this was omitted, it's essential to have it.If it's essentialy, why is this the first time in nearly 2 years that I've heard anyone suggest it? I have no idea how long the calendar feature was in place *before* I came on board at that.
arcticblue Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 If it's essentialy, why is this the first time in nearly 2 years that I've heard anyone suggest it? I have no idea how long the calendar feature was in place *before* I came on board at that.If not 'essential' so very practical ;) If adding an event e.g. a gathering/meeting/event/happening/wedding/journey, the related information about that could be added as an attachment (invitation, menu, dress codes, checklist, etc) if already existing in another digital form.
bfarber Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Oh yeah, I agree. Or sometimes people's sites are related to bands and uploading a flyer to the calendar event would be nice. Or if there is a concert uploading a flyer would be good. Or a baby shower, maybe a wedding registry page from a site. Lots of possibilities.Just was pointing out perhaps "essential" wasn't the right word. :P
rakaposhi Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 If it's essentialy, why is this the first time in nearly 2 years that I've heard anyone suggest it? I have no idea how long the calendar feature was in place *before* I came on board at that.Only very recently have I started to use the Calendar properly. I think there's been a disconnect btw the forums and the calendar... the former overshadows the latter. Most of my members ignore the Calendar.. sometimes they even post events in the forums...Now that there's the ability to RSS the output to other pages on my site, I've been making a concerted effort to use it... and I just expected it to have the normal post box features... so when I couldn't find an attachment option, I hunted through the admin settings, connvinced that it had to be there somewhere.I think the Calendar has a lot of potential, but you guys need to somehow expand its features and make it more visible to users.. one example could be calendar categories... eg I have a 'whats on' calendar but it would be great to be able to post events under 'arts', 'food', 'sports' - you get the idea.Try and make the Calendar more of a listings-type app, where users can see events not only in the traditional Calendar view, but also all events on one page, eg row by row.
Strange_Will Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 If it's essentialy, why is this the first time in nearly 2 years that I've heard anyone suggest it? I have no idea how long the calendar feature was in place *before* I came on board at that.Because most people don't even USE the calendar.
TCWT Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 Brandon, maybe if you add a feature like alarm clock, event reminders on Calendars..more will use. :P Something like a popup to remind you of an event. There is a personal notepad, why not event reminders? ;)
bfarber Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Brandon, maybe if you add a feature like alarm clock, event reminders on Calendars..more will use. :P Something like a popup to remind you of an event. There is a personal notepad, why not event reminders? ;)I'll add the alarm clock in after I add the coffee maker. I like coffee more - and I hate it when my alarm clock goes off and coffee isn't ready.
arcticblue Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Because most people don't even USE the calendar.A pity, but maybe true? For 'personal'/'family' forums the Calendar would be a very useful 'section'. I would also guess that professional sites could use the Calendar for more things as well (e.g. events, competitions, dead-lines, reminders, member expiration issues, etc). There are so many use cases involving date and time... just think about what you 'should' do today or even a week or month ahead... quite a few things, huh ;) IMO, the Calendar is one part of IP.Board that has much potential in growing, both in features and in ease-of-use.Main point is that the Calendar could be much 'more'...
jts2005 Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Because most people don't even USE the calendar. I don't use it because it isn't well integrated. if It created visible topics in the forums my members would use it more.
henke37 Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I hope that v 3 solves this issue once and for all by getting rid of all these topic posers. If people are able to reply to something, it's a topic, period. Just add a db field in the topics table to indicate if the forum id is actually a forum or some other sort of id, like a bug tracker or calendar event.
bfarber Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 If people are able to reply to something, it's a topic, period. Are you talking about the calendar events? If so, people cannot (presently) reply to them.
