Haku2 Posted December 25, 2004 Posted December 25, 2004 I think a good feature to add is limit the Admin CP for normal admins. That way you can limt the parts you want them to see.
Logan Posted December 25, 2004 Posted December 25, 2004 This is suppose to be a feature in 2.1.0. Although it would better to limit ACP access to ROOT admins and limited admins both.
Haku2 Posted December 25, 2004 Posted December 25, 2004 How do you know it is going to be a feature. I really want to know what is going to be in 2.1.0.
Logan Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 Then buy IPB and when 2.1 comes out you will be able to see the new features.
Antony Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 Root Admins should be only the Owner of the Board. He should be able to Register the Board, Create new Groups with Admins Permissions, etc. Other admins should be allowed to Proform Certian Tasks as set by the Root administrator. i hope we will be able to only let some admins create subforums in certian forums only.
Logan Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 Well the thing is, if you want ALL admins to be under one group like: Admin (which is the ROOT group). You don't want to have to create a whole new group just for limited permissions like Co-Admin with limited admin permissions. Thats why I want to be able to customize individual ROOT admin's permissions. That way all admins can be under one group, but some will have different permissions customizable by the "owner"(one with all permissions).
Antony Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 Nope. I Prefer to Create Different Groups. Just hide your Group from the Members List if you dont want people to know about your Second Admin Group.
X-Sports NZ Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 I would rather it have a feature where ROOT Admins can make a new group with ACP access, but limit what Admin CP catagories they can view and use.
Logan Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 It doesn't matter if you hide it from member list, when they post you will still see on the "Co-Admin/whatever". No I'm not removing the user group from the left panel either. There should just be an option to edit current ROOT admin's permissions. Or at least thats what I think.. and if its not included. Well.. I will have to see how much a custom programming quote would cost for such a thing.
outlaw Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 No. You should be able to edit admin's permissions. ROOT admin should be as it says ROOT full access.
Logan Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 Yes you do have a point, although I don't want to make two user groups just to seperate permissions amoungst them. It in some cases looks a bit unprofessional, and causes hassle sometimes.
Logan Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 Yeah I know... thats the problem, I don't know what else could be done. Or what feature would allow this. I would put in a custom coding request, but I don't know how this would go about. So I guess I'm out of luck.
Logan Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 Nevermind, I worked out a new user group for my site. And now I agree, permissions for just normal admins would be great.
Germany Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 I like this idea. By the way, just create another group called "Admin," with the same permissions and you have a non-ROOT admin.
Logan Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 I will use that for now, but I still need to disallow certain parts of the ACP that aren't limited in the "limited" ACP access.
Haku2 Posted January 1, 2005 Posted January 1, 2005 I wonder when IPB 2.1.0 will come out. It will probally come out soon. I am guessing arounf February. We still have: IPB 2.0.4 IPB 2.0.5 IPB 2.0.6 IPB 2.0.7 IPB 2.0.8 IPB 2.0.9 Then IPB 2.1.0
tzrtim Posted January 1, 2005 Posted January 1, 2005 nah they never had 1.4, 1.5 1.6 1.7 1.8 1.8 :P they just went to 2.0 so i hope they dont lol or its alot of downloads :P
Haku2 Posted January 1, 2005 Posted January 1, 2005 They do skip. They may have 2.0.4 It is hard to knpw what aree they going to do.
SjorsK Posted January 2, 2005 Posted January 2, 2005 Far as my understanding: 2.x.z where x is major features/add-ons while z includes bugs/security fixes.
outlaw Posted January 2, 2005 Posted January 2, 2005 Far as my understanding: 2.x.z where x is major features/add-ons while z includes bugs/security fixes.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Pretty much how it works with most software versions.
Logan Posted January 2, 2005 Posted January 2, 2005 Outlaw, Say Matt didn't include a custom admin privleges feature in 2.1.0. Would you do a mod for it? I know your busy, but would you consider it even?
Haku2 Posted January 2, 2005 Posted January 2, 2005 I know there was a mod that limited access by dean from invisionize. I pmed becuase it never worked and he said that he is not working on the mod any more and to remove it.
Logan Posted January 2, 2005 Posted January 2, 2005 Yes I tried Dean's mod as well, I remember him saying in the support topic for it that it doesn't work and to not use it.
Haku2 Posted January 2, 2005 Posted January 2, 2005 The mod would be great if he fixed it. A lot of Dean's mods look good. ;)
