I have two Invision Community licenses. I upgraded my first site to v5, but I don't want to go through the hassle of reinstalling all settings and plugins from scratch when upgrading my second site to v5.

If I run the database and script from the first site on my server for the second site, I assume it will trigger a license error.

What is the correct installation method?

The only "correct method" is to upload the v5 files (overwriting the old v4 files) and then go to domain.com/admin/upgrade. There is no other method.

The settings and applications are retained on upgrade, but you'll also need to upload new versions for all applications. The plugins were removed from v5, so those will be removed (the settings will remain in the database, but you'll need a new v5-compatible application).

No, what I meant was this: I want to directly move the site to another domain and run it there. I think changing the license should be enough, but how do I change the license?

If it’s unclear, let me explain it this way:

  • I have two licenses.

  • I am actively using one of them.

  • I decided to activate the second one, but I will use it for a different project.

I want to transfer everything, including all plugins, from the first license to the domain where I will use the second one. This way, I won’t have to reinstall all the plugins. I just need to change the license.

How do I change the license?

Go to this page: ACP > System > SETTINGS > License Key. There's a Change License Key button in the top-right corner of the page. Enter your new license key there.

Thank you. Where do I configure the new domain settings? The domain on the transferred site is different.

By the way, since I’ve found you, let me ask: Will you be developing your applications for v5? Or are you planning to create any app similar to Classifieds?

The domain is automatically set when you enter the licence key in ACP. Since you're changing domain, you first need to reset it in your client area: https://invisioncommunity.com/clientarea

Click the Manage button for your license, and you should see a Change Licensed URL.

If you mean the site's URL, you can change it in the conf_global.php file through FTP or a control panel's file manager.

Yes, I have some already done and some almost done. I was just waiting for IPS to add some template hook points (which they recently added in 5.0.4). I'll be doing a mass release soon.

If you need a specific one, send me a PM, and I can have you test it before it's released.

As for Classifieds, no plans yet. There are already a couple of apps for v4, so I assumed those developers would release a v5 update.

You can change the domain in the conf_global.php file

Hi, I have completed the migration. My forum used to be at forum.domain.com, but now I will be using the CMS capabilities of v5, so I won’t be running it on a subdomain.

However, when I enter my license in the admin panel, it doesn’t accept it, and I can’t change the address from forum.domain.com to www.domain.com in the Invision Community client area because it says there is already a setup on the hosting (even though I tried after deleting all the files)."

Let me know if you need any further assistance!

As stated in the message, you need to remove it from the old domain, before you can install at a new domain. If you are moving it, then you need to move it to the new location and change the conf global file before you can reset your domain. .At present, both URLs on both licenses have an installation present
