Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted Sunday at 09:29 PM4 days I haven't launched my new community yet. I was just asked a question from someone I gave early access to, to provide feedback. His main question: "Why isn't there a notification for new posts or updates on the app? How can people engage if they don’t even know when someone has posted or is online?"Keep in mind, this person and I am assuming a lot of people that may be checking our and signing up to the forum are 'Mobile Only' users.I went the through all the steps to enable push notifications. 1. In Chrome on desktop, I went to my Notification Settings, and under Notifications Type Available, for Push, I selected Enable in this browser. 2. I went in my Mac OS setting for Notifications to make sure they were enabled for Chrome.3. On my iPhone I went into Notifications to make sure they were enabled for Chrome.4. I shared my community to my phones homescreen and saved it. 5. I made sure I was 'Following' a thread I posted.6. I signed in with a test account, posted in the thread I created with my other account, and I never received a push notification for it. I tried this several times. Is there anything I am doing wrong. Also, I believe a lot of people that may be potentially signing up to the forum are using Android. Is push notifications in issue there, does it work? Are there details steps on how to properly set up push notifications for both iOS and Android? Also, if a person is MOBILE ONLY, can they still enable push notifications?Besides just recommending to people that they should login to the forum daily to check for updates, I would love to be able to provide a working guide which allows them to receive push notifications on their phone. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Tuesday at 11:27 AM2 days I cant see anything obviously incorrect there. Could I ask however, for you to check you werent actually on the page on one of those devices?
Tuesday at 01:46 PM2 days Management It's worth pointing out that the actual notifications are sent via a task, so it may be that the task just hasn't run if you do not get many visitors.

Could you please explain further how task work?Thank you.
Wednesday at 08:31 PM1 day Solution I just barely launched yesterday. Could you please explain further how task work? All tasks run on a timetable but if your community does not have traffic, those tasks will not run per that timetable reliably as there are points where no one is on the site. Thus, as the background tasks handler catches up, it will then issue the notifications.
Wednesday at 08:42 PM1 day Author Ok thank you so much for explaining this all. I will give it some time and see if things change as the activity increases.
