Mobile uploads from at least Android is showing up sideways in posts. I have the latest version of IP board installed, running gd, and have exif installed. What can I do to resolve this?

Thanks @Marc. I'm seeing it in posting in the forum. I know definitely it occurs with Android. It is hit or miss. Sometimes it rotates correctly, other times it's sideways. It can happen in the same post, ie. 4 pictures are sideways and 1 is correct. Very odd and frustrating for the owner of the site.

If its sometimes rotating, its highly likely its the image not having the info to rotate, rather than your site, to be honest. We would need some examples in order to take a look and advise

Thanks @Marc where can I send a copy of a photo that I know did not work and the link to the forum post?

  • Community Expert

Zip the original that you are to upload, and send to me via PM.

Also please try uploading it in our test post area, to see if the same happens here with the same photo

Unfortunately, this is something you will need to take up with your hosting company, as it seems that its not being addressed properly on your server. You can see in the PM you have sent me, its uploading the correct way around in the software.

  • Author

Yeah but I sent it to you via a laptop not Android device.

The hosting company is me on AWS. What should I be looking for. Sometimes it’s fine on Android devices. Uploads using other devices work fine. Seems others have posted this same issue.

I understand what you are saying there, but regardless of how you are sending it to me, its rotated correctly. Feel free to try and send it from an android device. Failing that, Im not sure myself. It could be the EXIF extension on PHP is missing, or could be an issue with your installation of the GD library or imagemagick. Without investigation as to your servers setup, I would simply be guessing

When you open this post in editing mode - how do you see the uploaded image, rotated as it is in the post, or looking correct?

In editing mode, it’s incorrect and sideways as well.

Before uploading a photo from Android, make sure it is vertically oriented. You can rotate it before uploading.

They look correct on the device before it gets uploaded. Others have reported the issue. I know the site owner has no issues posting to other places like Facebook or Instagram, just Invision.

Ask them to clear their mobile browser cache and cookies and try uploading again.

That did not fix it.

What is the idea of using link rel preload for css editor?
This can cause issues for you.

I think you should remove this.

Is it only that user who is having issues when uploading to your site, or everyone?

  • Author

@Marc The owner asked that question early this morning. People responded that they don't have any issues. He only takes portrait photos, so I am confused why some would be rotated to landscape. The ones that get rotated are sideways. 4 out of 5 pictures he posted today were sideways. Not sure if it is the sensor on his camera? EXIF data? Very odd problem for sure.

If it is only one user who is having issues, I would guess that something is up with the device. Either the sensor is not working correctly or corrupted EXIF data.

Has he tried uploading photos to a site with the same IPS software?

@Marc Is there a place for the owner to upload the same photos on this community forum? Is there a test forum for this sort of thing?
