Is there a way to add content there (some text and image link) ? I suppose I'd have to mod the template but where do I start? Thanks!

Could contain: Page, Text, Document

Profile field content can be placed there by just activating this option. That would be the easiest way.

You can activate it per field.

There are also option how to style that content.

That's great, thanks! I was able to display it with a custom formatting. Is it possible to have a field be HTML content? Specifically I'm trying to have an image that is a link to another page. So something like <a href="page_URL"><img src="image_URL"></a>

Is there a way to make a profile field (or a profile field group) available only to certain groups (or only to the admin)? I couldn't find permissions for profile fields.

Not directly. That would be very dangerous. But you can achieve a lot already with the styling options for the field.

There are no member group permission. But there is the “Member can edit value” which can restrict changes to the admin.

I understand that, however my idea would be to give that permission only to the admin (me) if it was possible.

Ok so there's no way to create a profile field only for the admin that won't exist for regular member?

If users can’t edit the field, it technically is an admin-only field.

Makes sense, great, I see that now, thanks!

However, still no apparent way to create an image that's also a link, unless I'm missing something?

You can put any HTML you want in the custom formatting options, but you can only have one variable added to the field itself. So, if you need two variables (like link + image URL) which differ for each user, it will not be easy.

Ugh. 😞 I don't mind not easy, but is it even doable at all?

I don’t know your use case.

My goal is to promote my book by having a picture of my book in that area, perhaps a small amount of text to quickly describe the book (5 or 7 words) and have the whole thing link to my book page on my site.

So this should apply only to my posts, and not to any other member on the forum.

Yeah, this can be done. Put the new field to “Member can edit”. Go to your profile and put something in that field. It can be anything. Like the word “Something”. It just needs to register content.

Then turn off “Member can edit” again, so no one will have access that field.

Now set the forum output to “custom” and just put your HTML in the box for “Custom topic formatting”.
You also need to deal with the profile output. Either put your banner in there too or just put in a space or something so it overrides the regular output. Otherwise it will show the “something”.
