Do your tasks run? There is a task viewupdates which runs every five minutes. I guess that he is responsible for the updates.

When I upgraded to PHP 8.1 the cron path needed to be updated.

Please be aware at this time PHP 8.1 is not supported. Only PHP 8.0 is. While the software may work, you may encounter issues.
