Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted January 2, 20169 yr As the title suggest, I'm having trouble setting up my Email. But before I make a ticket, I thought I'd try here. I've tried using both my original gmail and my new google apps account for my domain. When I try PHP I get the error "email could not be sent" - when I try SMTP I get "Connection refused". If I disable my firewall I get the same result. Any advice or ideas for troubleshooting?

Mail delivery method: SMTP SMTP Host: smtp.gmail.com SMTP Protocol: SSL SMTP Port: 465 SMTP Username: my email address SMTP Password: my email password The main difficulty was getting google to play along; I needed to find a way to make it accept IPS4 as a less secure app. https://support.google.com/a/answer/6260879?hl=en It was a bit difficult and it's been a while, so I can't remember exactly what I did. But as I remember it, I needed to somehow unlock the ability to accept less secure apps. Feel free to ask again if you're completely stuck, I'll see if I can jog my memory then.
February 11, 20169 yr Oh, I've just got it to work: Mail delivery method: SMTP SMTP Host: tls://smtp.gmail.com standard/plaintext 465 user@gmail.com password There were some security settings to do too. thank you for the feedback
February 11, 20169 yr Fixed mine basically the same way using an email setting from my cpanel. Mail delivery method: SMTP SMTP Host: mail.mydomain.com SMTP Protocol: Standard / Plaintext SMTP Port: 25 SMTP Username: webmaster@mydomain.com SMTP Password: mysmtppassword And all is working perfect.
