Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
mikaweb™ Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Hi Everyone, My shared hosting company asked me to move out since I use too many resources on their server. My idea is to use Linode (Linode 2GB) since it is a reliable company with a good network / location for my visitors. The forum is the bottleneck based on my hosting company and we did what we could to optimize the forum as much as possible (no +/- 1, not displaying visitors in topics, etc...). I plan on using Nginx with PHP-FPM and MySQL 5.6 (or MariaDB) instead of the current Apache 2.2, old hard drive, MySQL 5.5. Our database is not so large, 800k messages, 1.5GB large with 100-150 users at the same time browsing through with peak at around 500-600 from time to time. Would Linode 2GB plan be sufficient? Should we directly move to something larger? I do have someone to manage the server so it will not be an issue to not have any control panel (free ressources) or even a dedicated server. Thanks ! Max
Aiwa Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 2G should be fine for those specs... I'd suggest an SSD if given the option.
mikaweb™ Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 Hi, Thanks for your answer. Yes, they provide SSD on all their plans. Anyway, I will try with this plan N°2 and upgrade if necessary, otherwise, for the same price, I can have a dedicated server at OVH or Online in France which is my target public. I hope to receive feedback from people hosted there, I'm sure there is a few.

I also have more or less 200/300 people at the same time with peaks of 1000. For 9,83€ per month, its perfect.
