Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
Cadune Amillion Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Hello, I have recently taken over the management of a forum and will be moving it over to a new server. Before committing to the transfer, I have been doing some trial runs to make sure everything will wok correctly the day I make it official. With that in mind, and with me being relatively new to managing the forum, I was hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction with a problem I am having. After completing the file and database backup and restore, I am able to visit the front page of the site and login on the new server, as well as visit the admin CP as well. However when I click on a forum to view it, I get a 404 not found on any thread I look for. Basically anything sub to the main page. Have I missed a permission setting some place in the file directory or anything possibly by that chance? Any suggestions would be great. IP.Board version 3.3.4 Thank you.
AndyF Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Assume you've edited conf_global to the new URL (if its changed) ? , double check it. :) Check Settings > General Configuration too, the URL / Path settings here although they generally result in broken images etc not 404's if these are incorrect. Examine any .htaccess files in the forum root directory, their path may of changed so its likely these are incorrect. If not sure, look at Settings > Search Engine Optimisation > If mod_rewrite is enabled the description here will point towards what you need.
Dmacleo Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 must rebuild furl cache too (really should do all recaches) and make sure old htaccess file doesn't have errant info in it like Andy said. often they will have some custom into using paths that no longer apply.
Cadune Amillion Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 Thank you for the suggestions. I will look into them momentarily.

This appeared to be it. I should have checked that to begin with. I'll continue forth checking things. TY both for your assistance.
