If you have one server, just stick to using xcache. There is a TCP overhead associated with memcached as others have mentioned.

However to do the above, just install memcached and xcache and add the memcached lines in IPB configuration file. xcache will automatically opcache.

heh, this is kind of funny and SORT of on topic.
if adding a cache method to conf_global and you see tons of errors after...enter the right method.
don't add memcache line if using apc...as I did repeatedly other day :tongue:

still getting odd errors...but at least its not due to my foolishness this time :)
