Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
• Jay • Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Pre-3.2.3, everybody's signature was able to be ignored, regardless of whether they were in a group that was protected from being ignored or not. Now, this no longer seems to be the case, and I'm wondering why. I absolutely understand the desire to protect some groups from the ignore feature because moderators/administrators need to be able to communicate with unruly members that might try to block them out in a fit of a tantrum. However, signatures do not (or at any rate, should not) contain essential information that all members need to see underneath every single post made by a member of a protected group. Please give us back the ability to allow our members to ignore signatures of members in the protected group(s).
Aisha Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Uh it makes no sense for someone to be "protected" from being ignored and then still be ignored even partially. Although if you're asking for the ability to ignore any and all signatures then I suppose that's different.
Management Matt Posted October 22, 2011 Management Posted October 22, 2011 Sounds like a bug actually.
• Jay • Posted October 22, 2011 Author Posted October 22, 2011 Sounds like a bug actually. I tried to report it in the Tracker, but when I clicked Submit I was redirected to the board index and the bug report didn't get saved.
bfarber Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Actually, the bug that was reported in 3.2.x (prior to 3.2.3) was that if you were in a protected group people could still ignore your signature. Now someone is reporting that signatures should be ignorable. This is one of those issues that can go either way, and no matter what we do someone is going to consider it not working correctly.
• Jay • Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 This would definitely benefit from having an option in the Admin CP, because there's (apparently) valid reason to have it both ways. One option would be to have the ability to block signatures treated separately from ignoring members. Then the protected group status wouldn't affect it, and Admins could choose whether to allow members to block signatures separately from ignoring others.
Jυra Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 People should be able to hide anyones signature. I don't see any reason for it not to.
