Report Centre

Have been trying to find some info on how the report centre works. Form what I can gather, a member reports, then the staff use the RC to discuss any actions that would need to be taken.

However, members can't see what actions were taken (which of course is a good thing)

Is it possible to add something that allows the member of staff who closes a report to send a quick message to the member to let him know the outcome of the report. Mainly because as it is now, if a member reported a post, but 2 days later it is still there (even though staff found it ok) he may think we are not doing our jobs.

So the ability to let him know via a quick message would be ideal IMO. Could message him "Thanks for your report, we have discussed the matter but found the content to be within the sites rules"

That way the member knows we are doing our jobs and not just ignoring the reports

Not to sound rood

Would it be so hard for the staff to send the member a PM? I don't see how hard it would be  . There believe there is a mod in the market place.

I understand what you guys are saying, but a person usually likes to know their efforts are not in vein. And when trying to build a community, it is always nice to have that extra level of interaction with your members, so that they know you are there doing your jobs and not just ignoring all these issues that they are reporting.

Say you come onto my forums regularly, and you often find certain content offensive and report it, now myself and my moderators always read the reports but don't often find the content is breaking any rules, and we agree the the content stays. Chances are your going to think that we are not doing our jobs and most likely not bother making the effort in future and possibly even give up on visiting the board.

And yes it isn't hard for me to PM a member letting them know, but when you have other mods dealing with some other issues you can't check if they have said anything.

There is also a difference in interacting with members and telling them the ins and outs of what your decision was and how you came to that conclusion.

This is purely about letting a member know you have received their report, and if need be a brief explanation as to why some content wasn't removed. This way they understand why it is still there instead of thinking we haven't even bothered.

Things like:
"Thank you for your recent report regarding "a brief description of the content". We believe the content doesn't break the rules, so have decided not to remove it."

or

"Thank you for your recent report regarding "a brief description of the content". The content has now been removed from the site."

IMO it helps make them feel like they are part of the community. And it makes it more likely that they will go on to report other content in the future, as we as mods are going to miss things from time to time.

If you want to contact the member back and let them know, you can, just PM them. Clearly not everyone wants to do that given the responses to this topic, so why should anything be changed? The ability to contact them back about this already exists, by sending them a PM.

It may not get changed, all I am doing is giving feedback on something I personally think could be added. If it doesn't then that is fine. But this is something I feel could be better implemented. And all I was doing was trying to explain in more detail. Not telling those who have replied that they are wrong. This is a feedback and discussion forum afterall
