Saurabh Jain Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Dear all IT experts, I am running my two boards on shared hosting and having lots of pain.. few points to note I keep getting sql max users limit My adsense revenue is avg 20 $ per month only. Content on my both community is one of the best , being mechanical engineeirng , the only community portal in India with 400 facebook fans Support fee (IPS) + share hosting fee is already the bills to be paid...... Now my points 1 How to select server (dedicated , virtual dedicated) : specifications ,(optimum solution) 2 What will be the various steps sequentially to move from one server to another (Total data is 5 GB) 3 Do an extra care needed to maintain servers , means I can say if give only one hour per day..... Plz advise Thanks and regards Saurabh jain
Gary. Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 You have two site / 5GB is needed, Then I would look for a virtual server ( VPS ) These are not expensive and they are pre-managed. The specs is depending on what your websites are based on, PHP or mysql If you give us the stats on your site such as daily visits, members online at once, database size ect then you will get alot more help.
Robulosity2 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Check out webhostingtalk.com If you're good you can get a good VPS provider I'm hosting two boards (one's got a 800Mb MYSQL DB the other's 100) with cPanel for VPS (just to make things easier) Anyway, with a decent promotion you can probably get a VPS wit at least a gig of memory and enough HD Space/bandwidth to suit your needs for under 40USD a month

Robulosity2 Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 40USD [img] [/img] You could get one cheaper but another thing is you may want to choose a country where the majority of your users are from, Im UK I host alot of UK based sites, My locations of my servers are France / Germany / Now these proove fast to connect to where as if I put them in the US pings would be drasticly slow. Notice how I said "Under" :P For 40$ i get 60GB, 1.5GB, unlimited bandwidth and it's managed
