Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted March 9, 201014 yr OK, so in the new today, there is an update to ipb and in this [url=" it explained a bit and gave two links to download depending on your version. Why wouldn't this be under the Client area? I am fairly new to IPB so I don't really know how your patches and security releases work, but for me, if you're trying to block access for those that haven't bought your software, why give them a chance to download a patch? I dunno... just curious more than anything. :D Jamie
March 9, 201014 yr As it states in the post that you linked, it is already updated in the fresh ZIP files in your client area. Those files are for a quick patch to already installed IPB installations. They also still give security updates *at least from what I remember* for all IPB customers. So even if your client support isn't active you can still get security patches.
March 9, 201014 yr Author They also still give security updates *at least from what I remember* for all IPB customers. So even if your client support isn't active you can still get security patches. I did notice they had updated the zip files, but the above quote helps me understand why they posted it in a public place/forum. I am used to the way vB runs... I forgot that IPS services their client even if their support has ended.. (novel concept by the way) Thanks for helping me understand. Jamie
March 9, 201014 yr Yes, we try (when it's feasible) to post security patches publicly so all customers can access them. In this case, it's one file that needs to be updated, so we've posted the patch publicly so that any customer can access.
March 10, 201014 yr Management We view security updates differently than normal updates. Even if a past client has chosen not to renew their support or service we feel it's only right to still provide security patches to all.
