Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
joelle Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Is IPB planing on adding the feature that moderators can only softdelete topics and Administrators harddelete topics? This is very important to us since we have had Moderators before who went insane by deleting topics they weren't supposed to delete. Thanks for answering.
Jυra Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 IPB already has that feature, but it's called something else (invisible/approve).
Philip_B Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 which version of IPB? I know of the trash can?
TrixieTang Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 That would be the trashcan. Yep, this is what the trashcan is for.
blackfalcon Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 IPB already has that feature, but it's called something else (invisible/approve). No, this is different. vbulletin uses this feature also. It would allow moderators to delete a thread, and enter a reason, and the post/thread author will be able to see the reason why the thread was deleted. It is different from moderated/invisable.

The post/thread author generally can't see it, just groups that are set to see it, that's usually just mods and admins, but I've seen forums that let everyone see the notices from soft deleted posts.

In my opinion it would be good if we could make it so that the author of the post can see the deletion reason for his thread/post.

In that case, allow everybody to see topics THEY started in the trash-can forum. Then, when moderators "delete" a topic, they can post a reply to it with the reason for delete.
Mr. Blake Reynolds. Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I cam up with an idea.. Softdelete = Move's to TrashCan Harddelete = Delete pernamently Like if you get bot spammed, like pornography for instance. -Blake Reynolds.
kablam Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Personally I'm a big fan of making soft delete show a public note like "this post has been deleted" possibly along with a reason. I also started a topic about this a while back...
OpenWare Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 No, this is different. vbulletin uses this feature also. It would allow moderators to delete a thread, and enter a reason, and the post/thread author will be able to see the reason why the thread was deleted. It is different from moderated/invisable. I always found this rather frustrating with regards to vBulletin. As a global-mod, it bugged me that I could not perma-delete posts from the threads, since the admin had installed vBRecycle, I just started moving posts to the trash can instead, other times I did find the SoftDelete rather useful. Softdelete -> Moves the topic to the trash-can, and places deletion notice in the thread view allowing mods/admins to see why a post was deleted, with the reason also showing in the moderation log in the ACP. Optionally topic permission to see the deletion notice could be granted to topic owners or all members of a group. An optional link to the topic in the TrashCan could be provided for admins/mods who have permission to access the trashcan, and when a thread is later hard-deleted (deleted from the TrashCan), that link could throw an error "The thread has been deleted permenently" Harddelete -> Delete the topic permanently as normal, leaving no deletion notice. Just my 2cents
