Enhanced ACP Tools

We have added a live-search facility to the admin control panel to help you find what you need much much easier (and before anyone asks - yes, "live search" is like the search on apple.com rolleyes.gif ).

Cool, but I would still like to see some additional tools like "Bookmarks"(mark my favorite searches), "History"(Last 10 searches), "Find text"(find on this page for html and css unlike the browser find and limited to the section we are working in), "Site Preview"(shows preview of site useful when editing).

Then, along the left hand column you will find an expandable menu which provides access to the main pages of the application, similar to IP.Board 2.

It would be even nicer to use an accordian style to compact this area to reduce scrolling. I loved the old style and missed it when it was there before as you mentioned, but with all the new techy trends out it can be further enhanced I feel.

All areas utilizing reordering functionality for all of our applications will use drag-n-drop + AJAX javascript functionality in IP.Board 3.

Wonder who suggested this he he he...Anyway, I'm just curious will the ability for example the typical settings in left side menu will they be able to be moved into a preferred zone if we choose? I suggested this before to reduce administration. Sometimes when I login to admin, I need a group of settings to be at the top on the fly temporarily while I manage them instead of scrolling to locate them. If I can simply drag that settings group to the top instead of navigating to another page to re-order them would be great. Then simply when I don't need them to be in position one anymore I can quickly drag another group in its place.

Enhanced Admin Notes [This is New]

Ability added for Admin to leave notes and another admin can leave comments or quote reply with pagination and ability to delete/edit comments. Currently the small admin notes section is more of a pain in rear to scroll such a small little box with out the ability to focus on replies or comments.

The bookmarks thing like nexus has would be cool but doubt it'd make it into 3.0 at this stage. As for search the entire acp's html/css this is impractical.

that is what was meant by expandable menu's ;).

I meant that when viewing a css or html we can search the current one open, not search for a phrase and hope one of the html or css has it.

that is what was meant by expandable menu's ;) .

No the expandable menu's from back in the days that bfarber mentioned was simply a minus/plus like we have on the forums... What I was suggesting was an accordion type that only the current section you are interested in is visiable. So when you click a section that would expand open and the others would close.

currently it doesn't do this but you never know...

We are not talking about currently mate... Talking about 3.0 as bfarber has stated they have implimented drag and drop in all places that things can be re-ordered... I'm wondering and suggesting the ability in the component settings area to be able to drag and drop them too, So if we have multiple components installed, we can quickly move the settings up and down instead of scrolling for them or going to another page to place them in the desired position.

That should take no effort to impliment and would make things more efficient when you have multiple admins that need to leave a note. I'm not requesting a full blown posting module, but something simple and streamlined for efficiency.

There's no benefit to an accordian menu over an expandable/contractable version. In fact, I don't generally take well personally to menus that I open closing on me when I didn't ask them to. Just a personal preference.

I really think it's hard for anyone who hasn't seen the ACP yet to make this sort of suggestion though. You're making a visual/usability suggestion about something you've never seen or used. ;)

There is no "component" section anymore - each application has it's own section. Again, perhaps you should keep these in mind but hold off until you can see and use the ACP. So much is different, any sort of visual/usability suggestion has a good chance of being irrelevant when thinking about the ACP in the context of 2.3

Heh - no effort to implement? While it would take effort, I can say it won't make it into 3.0, which is feature locked.

Just looks cool and makes me feel good is all :P

Git er done!

So that leaves us with menu as I can hardly imagine a tab for every component  or is it like the Nexus way?

Well let me rephrase this... ACP notes is already a feature, so do you think you guys can enhance it a little bit to have more funtionality then it currently does? ;)

well seeing as no real blog entry has been made on the acp, to tell you more we'd have to kill you :P. But it is featured locked so although your suggestions will be considered for 3.1 they won't be in 3.0... unless they are in 3.0 and we aren't telling you... cus we'd have to kill you... its a vicious circle i tell ya :P.
