Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Leone Club Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 A shopping cart will be quite handy in an IB for a number of reasons:Most owners of community boards do so with private funds. After a while the cost add up. With a shopping cart capability owners of these boards can offer related merchandise. With more money in the hands of owners the more likely that they will continue to pay-up IPS license fees. Members of these boards will also have the opportunity to contribute in the form of buying available merchandise. Sell of souvenirs can also help promote these communities. etc. If you look at the big picture it will all add up to more sales for IPS.
peter_anderson Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 I think that would be more suited for a modification.
TrixieTang Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Despite the fact it's on hold currently, I believe that's part of what IP.Nexus is supposed to be for, business/billing management. It would be pretty redundant to have two products with overlapping features. ;)
Alex Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 I doubt anything like this will make it in IP.Board3, as Kaede has explained, that is what IP.Nexus is for :)
Leone Club Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 I think that would be more suited for a modification. Well so far the mods are stalling. If Nexus is about billing then it will be more suited for businesses offering services...the cart will help smaller communities who wish to have small online stores. Some of us will be willing to pay the extra bucks for it.
Alex Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 I believe there is a Cart/Shop system by Metalaxe, I know the main system costs, but I remember reading that they may have made a free, with less features, version.
Brandon D Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=m...G=Google+Searchhttp://metalaxe.com/ And I agree with several here that it should just be a mod.
.Ryan Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 I forget the site right now but check out IB Commerce or something, its cheaper then MetalAxe's insane price, and the guy said he would upgrade it to make sure it works with 3.0 :)
Leone Club Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 metalAxe is definately crazy in their pricing.
Alex Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Its up to them on what they price it at, but thats not what this discussion was about :) If you have issues with their pricing, take it up with them, here is not the place :)
Leone Club Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Hope you're not a dictator...I started this topic so it's kinda interesting that you tell me what is related or not. If you have no worthy input for the thread you have the option to pass.
Malefickus Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 MetalAxe may have higher prices, but it has been my belief in life that you get what you pay for. After all, aren't we customers of IPB all using a paid forum software for the better quality, the support, and such? If you want a free or cheap modification, don't expect support on it, and don't expect it to be upgraded with any future version upgrades. However, with a paid modification, I'd expect upgrades that are released either on or shortly after the date of a version upgrade from IPB. Aside from that, would the built-in subscription manager work for this for you at all? I use that to collect donated funds from my members. Of course, there are perks to them being a Donor, but no one on my site is forced to donate.
Michael Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Hope you're not a dictator...I started this topic so it's kinda interesting that you tell me what is related or not. If you have no worthy input for the thread you have the option to pass. This topic you started was about asking for a shopping cart feature built-in to IPB 3, not about how much a third party shopping cart modification costs.
Alex Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Hope you're not a dictator...I started this topic so it's kinda interesting that you tell me what is related or not. If you have no worthy input for the thread you have the option to pass. I don't see how that could be said as dictating, it's merely standing up for them. Your discussion was not about MetalAxe, it was about something for IP.Board 3. Saying what you feel about the prices on another website just seems a bit wrong, kind of like stabbing in the back. Metalaxe would probably like to hear your views, but again the pricing issue has absolutely nothing to do with this topic. <_<
Leone Club Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 This topic you started was about asking for a shopping cart feature built-in to IPB 3, not about how much a third party shopping cart modification costs. Other posters made reference to mods and how can one talk about a cart without talking about price? It is not uncommon for discussions here to take a different route, so this topic is by no means different.Your discussion was not about MetalAxe It was about a cart and metalaxe makes cart. ;) IPS provide excellent product/services but they are not charging such a ridiculous price as metalaxe for a single component that is in beta.
Leone Club Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Am going with Cre Loaded (oscommerce) now. I bought it sometime ago for $99 when it was on sale.
