Invision board server specs

Hi,

I'm thinking about installing my board on a dedicated server but really would like to know what the best specs are for the server.

My forum have about a 800 visitors a day.

any suggestions?

Moving topic to "Server Management, Resources, Optimization" :)

That's hard to answer....I mean, are there other things running on the server? Any mods to IPB, or are you using any components? How do you configure the board?

800 visitors is quite a bit simultaneously, but you said that's in a day. How many online at once, typically (and at peak)? It's hard to say if one dedicated server can fully handle 800 visitors, especially without knowing the size of the database (posts, members, etc.) for example.

Well here are some numbers of my board:
IP.Board Version (History) v2.3.1 (ID: 23004)
Members Manage (14951)
Topics 20228
Posts 56796
Uploads 13.58 mb

The online users are normally around 30 and at peak 60.

Mods I have installed:
Invision Chat (ParaChat)
(FSY22) Global Forum Message
(FSY23) Universal Mod Installer
D22-Shoutbox
(FSY22) Member Anniversaries
(FSY22) Auto PM New Members
(FSY22) Group Name Indicator
D22-Statistics
D22-Live Board Life Status

I hope you can say something about a minimal server configuration.

The number of users you have would only require a small server, maybe something along the lines of a Dual Core Intel or AMD with 1G or 2G of RAM. I always recommend 2G of RAM just for additional growth and RAM is cheap right now. That is going to give you plenty of performance now and some headroom as well for future growth.

Also, be aware the shoutbox can increase the load much more than a stock installation would show. Some mods use more resources than others, and any shoutbox mods are among those that increase load (the ones that auto-refresh at least).

Slightly OT, but your IPB could use a bugfix update. We're on 2.3.4 now. :)
