i thought maybe a good option would be a setting for mods/admins when they hoover above a membername they can see the original name of the member if he changed it?

Hover the name (or the avatar), see log-in name, original display name (if different from log-in and different from current), then up to the last 3 changes with dates/times of the changes, in a small "display box"

It's already possible for staff members to see a member's original user name, along with his or her display name history. It's just all in the ACP, and not via ToolTips. Creating a ToolTip to do what you want probably isn't hard, though. I'd ask at Invisionize once the staff over there has a had a chance to play with Beta 3.

True, to both, but there are some forum admins that like to hover and get that information automatically instead of taking extra steps for it.
