kim Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 We used to have a hack that did just that, it was very good in heated situations to ensure things did not get out of hand. Sometimes in the middle of debates or if people are arguing, it is very easy for even rational and good members to act in a manner they would not normally. We used our hack version a fair bit. I would like to see a "super lock" built in as well
FrostedPopTart Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Isn't that what the "ban" option is for? :P <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You don't always have to ban someone for a single offense. Granted if they have many offenses then banning is more applicable, but if it is a first (or even a second offense) I can't really see pulling the bannination trigger (unless you are a ban happy admin <_< )...
RafaelT Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 I don't think this is needed... if they change it after you do.. you change it back and warn them.. ifthey do it again suspend
Halcy0n Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 I don't think this is needed... if they change it after you do.. you change it back and warn them.. ifthey do it again suspend<{POST_SNAPBACK}> the whole idea is to prevent having to do that in the first place
Wolfie Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 A good admin/moderator knows the line between keeping control and being controlling. Keeping control would be to make the changes and if they are able to change it back (and do), then telling them that it was changed on purpose and to leave it as it was updated (then edit it back to the way you want it).. Then if they disregard authority, to suspend or moderator their posting abilities. Reasoning? Easy.. First time doing the edit, the user may not realize what happened (not all users are exactly the brightest in the bunch), so may try to edit it thinking that they messed it up the first time.. Second time though, if they get a notice for what is going on, if they do it again, then it's intentional. But if trigger happy to ban/suspend the first time, then the user may not have realized what they did wrong (or that they DID do something wrong), and feel resentment for not being communicated with and given a fair chance. That doesn't get someone to respect the forums, it gets them to decide to move on, and they might tell a few others so that they leave too..
cowudders Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 Can I add my vote to the "this would be a great feature, and very useful" count, and also to the "hello?" count towards IPB staff.... :D
Hancoque Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 The advantages were well explained. For the people who dislike such a feature: just make it optional and everything should be perfect. :)
krocheck Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 This is a great idea ... and since they already made the lock and unlock buttons for Blog, this would be very simple to add in (or at least I think).
