Hi,

This may already have been covered, but I'm not sure. I have a user who has accessibility issues with our site. Apparently, v5 has a font slightly lighter than v4. They have requested some help, and I don't want to change the theme for everyone. What are my options? Is there an accessibility option for users who need it?

Thanks,
Dean

You can create a new theme with whatever colors you want and let that user select it.

Exactly the above. That way you dont need to change it for everyone.

If you are looking for only that user to have access to it, you could even go as far as to create a new group for that user, and give only that group access to the new theme you create if you wanted to

Hi Dean,

Is your user referring to the color of the text, or the thickness? If color, creating a new theme is the only way at the moment.

If they're referring to the font-weight (I only say this because there are values called light and lighter), then upgrading to the latest version of 5.x if you haven't already might help. In the first versions of v5, I was using the -webkit-font-smoothing property which adjusts how fonts are rendered on macOS and can make fonts appear thinner/lighter than normal. This code has since been removed, which has made fonts slightly thicker with improved contrast. With this said, it's a macOS-only thing, so if your user is browsing on a different device, it won't have any impact.

For reference, the font-size and color in v5 pass the WCAG Contrast test with AAA results, so I don't imagine too many users would be having issues with contrast, especially since these tests are pretty strict. Hopefully this is just an isolated case 🙂
