Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
kmk Posted Thursday at 08:07 PM Posted Thursday at 08:07 PM Hello, could you advise me on how to install my v5? I plan to install v5 in a new folder and then import the old database. This approach seems cleaner, doesn't it? If I place the new installation files in my current site folder, it will include all the existing files, some of which may be unnecessary, right?
Cloaked Posted Thursday at 08:13 PM Posted Thursday at 08:13 PM Importers are not working in the beta.
kmk Posted Thursday at 08:52 PM Author Posted Thursday at 08:52 PM So the only way is put the these news files and replacing the old files right?

You could also just delete everything except the upload directory, but keep in mind that this will also delete all 3rd party application and plugins files . But you're confusing me, you're talking about installing and not updating, so what exactly are you trying to accomplish? A new installation, an upgrade or just a test upgrade?
kmk Posted Thursday at 09:43 PM Author Posted Thursday at 09:43 PM An upgrade... In the case of just replacing the old files with v5 files, how these old v4 3rd party applications and plugins affect the website or software? some of these apps will not be installed more, maybe some of these v4 will be installed again when their v5 released.
Gary Posted Thursday at 10:29 PM Posted Thursday at 10:29 PM Hi @kmk, Plugins and apps will not work unless the developer has updated them to work on v5. If your community is using numerous plugins/apps, I would suggest getting in touch with the developer before upgrading. Preparation is key and will avoid any issues during the process.
kmk Posted Friday at 04:47 AM Author Posted Friday at 04:47 AM Can I disable all 3rd applications and plug-in and replace with the v5 files? Then in the future if I want them install new apps of v5? That mean I will start using the ips v5 without 3rd apps. These v5 apps and plug-in will not cause problem for v5 right?
Gary Posted Friday at 05:17 AM Posted Friday at 05:17 AM If you are simply upgrading an existing community, then disabling the apps/plugins from within the AdminCP of your community should be enough for v5 to work. You will have to make sure the developers of those apps/plugins have updated them to work on v5 before enabling them again, otherwise you will receive a lot of errors and potentially a malfunctioning community. kmk 1
