LiveG Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 What does this app do? How is it different from registering directly to AWS? https://www.invisioneer.org/files/file/387-aws-simple-email-service-with-bounce-management-for-invision-community-4/ I want to implement SES and am looking for a quick and straightforward way.
Randy Calvert Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 (edited) There is nothing simple or straight forward with SES. It’s a great platform but those two words don’t come close to describing it. The plugin allows you to send email via API commands to AWS SES/SNS to handle. It allows you to also process bounces that AWS receives to automatically have IPB handle it (disable mail for the user, block user, etc). The plugin does not do all of the AWS setup (either SES or SNS). It does not get AWS to approve you exiting the sandbox. It’s a fantastic tool and the author has great support. Just realize SES itself is not for the faint of heart. Edited December 2, 2023 by Randy Calvert opentype, LiveG and David N. 3
LiveG Posted December 3, 2023 Author Posted December 3, 2023 For a few months now, i have been searching for a mail service that will be easy to implement, Any recommendation?
opentype Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 That’s not much to go on. Please describe your needs. How much emails do you send per month? And what is you are struggling with currently without an external mail service? Do you hit send limits with your host? Do you have delivery issues? LiveG 1
LiveG Posted December 3, 2023 Author Posted December 3, 2023 (edited) My need is for: Outgoing mail - for registration proposes confirmation; followers contact mail updates, and sometimes for bulk mail for the entire community. Incoming - for contact form. Gmail blocked me, and Sendgrid is not an option. i have 10K users registered. Today, my delivery isn't functioning at all. Edited December 3, 2023 by LiveG
opentype Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Where are you hosted? What are your results with just PHP mail? Have you access to your DNS settings to optimize your mail delivery?
LiveG Posted December 3, 2023 Author Posted December 3, 2023 Self-hosted. Gmail blocked me, I guess, because of the amount of mail I have sent. When it worked, it worked well. For now - I have no mail service delivery configured..
Solution opentype Posted December 3, 2023 Solution Posted December 3, 2023 Just now, LiveG said: Self-hosted. Where? Your hosting usually comes with email sending capabilities initiated through PHP. Does that not work?
LiveG Posted December 3, 2023 Author Posted December 3, 2023 I didn't try it; It is now configured on SMTP. What does this option do? Something I need to configure on my server?
opentype Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 It usually just works. Turn it on and then use the Test Settings button on the same page to send yourself a test email. LiveG 1
LiveG Posted December 3, 2023 Author Posted December 3, 2023 Well - it works indeed! Thank you. You solved a massive problem for me. 🙏
