How to turn off the "New Images" feature in Gallery index page?

Is there a switch that can close the “New Images” block in Gallery index page?

You can't; there is no option/setting for this but there goes a tiny plugin to do it:

Remove New Images Block in Gallery Index 1.0.0.xml
