David Sims Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 Is it possible to have specific groups start on different Pages or Modules? For example, one group would start on a published Page and another group would start on a different Page.
Marc Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 There isn't currently any facility for doing this within the platform. What is it you are trying to achieve however? In most instances where this is the case, it tends to be for advertising subscription sign up. If you can give more information, there may actually be ways around this, by suppressing items from certain groups, amending error pages etc David Sims 1
David Sims Posted September 16, 2021 Author Posted September 16, 2021 I have two groups of members. I'd like for each group to start at a Page that is specific to them. Group 1 would see Page 1 as their "home page". Group 2 would see page 2 as their "home page". Neither group will see the other group's "home page". Currently, everyone logs in and they get the front page of the Forum. Because the two groups have access to different things, I'd like a "home page" that gives them a good starting point with relevant information for their specific group.
Solution Marc Posted September 16, 2021 Solution Posted September 16, 2021 The only way to do this within the software itself, would be instead of creating 2 pages, you just create 1 with different blocks that the different groups can see. Example Topic feed - Thats fine as people can only see their own WYSIWYG block - Permission only given to group A WYSIWYG block - Permission only given to group B Some page builder block- Permission only given to group A Some page builder block- Permission only given to group B And so on David Sims 1
David Sims Posted September 16, 2021 Author Posted September 16, 2021 Ah... nice workaround. That may work. Thanks for the suggestion!
David Sims Posted September 16, 2021 Author Posted September 16, 2021 Where would I set these permissions? When I look at the Visibility settings of a WYSIWYG block I see "Show on all devices?" but no permissions based on groups.
Marc Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 You would need to create custom blocks in your admin CP. You can then add those custom blocks using the custom block type on the front end. By doing it this way, you can apply permissions to each block Just to add, thank you for your question. I have added this as an internal note for creating guides on. It's a nice little project others may find helpful
David Sims Posted September 16, 2021 Author Posted September 16, 2021 That's what I was thinking, but I don't see the WYSIWYG editor as an option.
Marc Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 OK, so instead of selecting "Plugin" select "Custom. You are then given the option of using the editor, which is the same thing. So the flow is this  Select custom Add a name Add some content on the content tab, then save Select the permissions and save Hope that helps David Sims 1
Marc Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 Just thought I would come back to this to let you know we have added a quick case study for people who want to achieve this using the pages application. Of course if there is anything you feel would be good to add in there, feel free to let me know. Â IPCommerceFan and David Sims 2
IPCommerceFan Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 I would love to be able to react to guides, because I'd be +1'ing this one if I could. lol
