Is there a way to change the behavior of Gallery's download button to just open the full resolution image in a new tab?

It used to behave that way, and then some complained that it wasn't actually "downloading" and their novice users didn't realize they could download the image (opened in a new tab).

Ah, I see. Barring that, is it possible to add the link to Open in New Tab to the lightbox as it is on the normal gallery page?

Sure, you'd just link directly to the image file.
