Why can a database block only be included on one page? I assume there is a valid reason but I can't see it. Please help me understand the reason.

The page where you put the database widget on become the unique address for all categories and records. Having it on multiple page would not only duplicate content and highly confusing for the users, but also lead to technical problems. Where should a database feed block link to for example?

You can of course show database content on various pages through blocks, but the main database block to which everything links to can only be used once.
