Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted April 16, 20168 yr Hello, I've used IP v 3.x in the past and know that in order to get the SEO friendly URLs to look correct, it was best to install the board into a sub-folder. So I would install the software in /forum and then use IP.Content in the root folder and it would display urls the way I wanted them to be displayed. Coming back to IPv4, I've noticed that if I install the board in the root, it will display the url of a page created as http://example.com/index.php?/pagename/ So I guess my question is, is it better for the friendly URLs scheme, if I install the board into a subfolder like I did using IPv3.x or is there a way to fix this currently with IPv4? Thanks for your help.
April 17, 20168 yr Community Expert It doesn't really matter where you install, it's completely your choice. The important thing is that whatever you choose you redirect any old URLs if you do change.
April 17, 20168 yr You can use proper friendly URLs when installing in the root domain, but, as with installing in a subdirectory, you have to go into ACP and, under Search Engine Optimisation, enable rewriting.
April 17, 20168 yr Author Thanks Jim/colonel_mortis. I did figure out how to make it work with it all installed in the root. The URLs look very nice now. I appreciate your time and information.
