DawPi Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Hello, how it works on your server? I'm living in Poland, tested it with ".de" mail on mine account and I was recognized as I'm from Germany. Maybe little show off yout backstage how it exactly recognizing the users? Thanks in advance.
Ryan H. Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 I would expect they use a GeoIP database or service themselves (like MaxMind), not that they're running their own process to guess at it. Geolocation can be pretty accurate most of the time, but it's never totally perfect.
DawPi Posted January 30, 2016 Author Posted January 30, 2016 Thanks guys for your replies. I expected to hear someone from IPS to get more 'officially' response.
bfarber Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 For address input fields, we use Google Maps. For language detection, we use the Accept-Language header your browser sends. For IP address lookup, we use a GeoIP database on our servers to guesstimate the location based on the IP address. Thus, it depends on which functionality you are referring to. We never use your email address FWIW.
