My members are asking for a 'file archive' as the picture gallery - is that possible anywhere on the platform ?

Files - the gallery function works with pictures.

What we want is to have a sort of file gallery along with the gallery function for photos/images - is that a feature in IP Board, and if so - where/how ?

No, just as a file-gallery, to share recepies, articles etc - not as fancy as the download app :)

You 'might' be able to trick Gallery into letting you upload files that aren't images, but it's likely going to try to run them through GD and the results would likely not be pretty.

If you want to share files, IP.Downloads. If you want to share Images, IP.Gallery.

If you want to distribute images, without showing them like in Gallery, then you can use IP.Downloads.

OR, just use the forums and have people attach what they want to posts.

OK, do I need to buy something extra to use the download app - when I am signed in as admin and try to enter, I am told: 'Sorry, you don't have permission for that!' - and to contact the community administrator, but that's me ;)

You'd need to just set up permissions for your downloads categories.
