Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
420Admin Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Hi all. I have a forum that is packed with content. Most of it is very solid. But I cant seem to get any traffic to my site. There has to be something i'm doing wrong or not doing at all. I have no SEO knowledge besides the brief reading i have been doing as of late. But I cant seem to drive any traffic to my site. 80% of my members have been through word of mouth. It will be coming up on the sites 1 yr anniversary at the end of April and I'm wondering if I'm feeling discouraged too soon. Ive followed all of the Doc guides here and activated the MOD rewrite , friendly furls , and have submitted a site map to google. I'm not sure if its my sites structure or what. If you dont mind take a look. www.StonerHaven.com . I work 2 jobs and dont really have the time to fully dive into SEO. I was hoping the content would pick up some of my slack but I feel like I'm sinking. And tips or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance !
-GR- Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 If this is a legitimate request I would say it might have something to do with the malicious content warning I just got when trying to visit your site.
420Admin Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 Thank you for the speedy reply GR ! Ive heard this before but Google webmasters tool shows no malware. I also have SiteLock scan my site daily for malware and such and their scan comes up clean. Why Does google not show this malware ? Thanks again GR !
420Admin Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 This is the message I get from google when I check my site health.. Malware Google has not detected any malware on this site.
420Admin Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 I don't see that warning. Thats the thing Dmac. I used a Proxy before with Hotspot shield and it said I have a " reported attack page ". But None of the scans pick up anything. And I'm still indexed by google. How do I find the malicious content?
-GR- Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I am at my work computer and the antivirus picked it up. I am not saying for sure that it is as I know they castrate us here at work. If I get a chance I will take a look when I get home from the home pc.
420Admin Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 I guess I should Add I dont get that Malicious content warning either.. Thank You GR !

It is possibly in the javascript as I believe google doesn't care about any java/script and doesn't index that.
420Admin Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 OK. I know your at work but maybe I can pick your brain a bit when your available. If this is part of the problem then I need to figure this all out . I knew it wouldnt be easy but I hear of new web sites getting 1000's of organic traffic hits in their first few months. I know there are many variables that play into that. But I know its something on my part. So any help is appreciated.
Weppa333 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 You are reported as malware by mcaffee see http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/stonerhaven.com
Weppa333 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 seems you were also blacklisted by Google Safe Browsing in the past, but not currently.
420Admin Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 Thanks Weppa. Blacklisted in the past YR ? This is crazy ! How do I scan for and remove these malicious files? Would they be Posts from members with external links ?
-GR- Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Sounds like you should first make sure your server is secure and also make sure you take any actions you can as far as making your IPB installation as secure as possible. Couple tips would be to have an .htaccess login to the admin cp directory and also renaming the admin cp folder and updating the config files as needed. I would download a fresh copy of IPB to your local computer and compare the files in that to the files on the server. If you see any files that are not in the fresh download I would investigate them. I would also check your .htaccess files and make sure they don't contain any redirects. Are you running ads on your site? If so who is the ad company? You can get malicious code from ads as well. There are a lot of variables in all of this.
420Admin Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 Interesting I don't get anything here. Its very weird . I noticed this a couple months ago a day or 2 after switching back to IPB hosting. They did the migration and looked into this when I told them about it but they found nothing. And I havent heard anything about it again until now. So ive left it as resolved until this point. But that may also explain the decrease in my traffic if users are getting that warning upon arrival. But Why not all users? I dont get the warning. Nor do any of my daily users. I'm going to contact sitelock and see if the can manually take a look.

He is always a great help. Ive had a few affiliate banners in the past. Right now just 1. i'm going to digg a bit so i can provide more info.
Dmacleo Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 was going to mention ads. I run adblocker so I may not have even seen the issue.
Sull5 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I don't and I never saw the issue. But to note, if IPS hosts your forum the server's will be secure... you'd think, other than that you could use htaccess to lockdown your admin as mentioned above, I don't know if IPS does this for you when they host.
420Admin Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 Ok . I can pretty much confirm there is no malware on my site. Had site lock do a scan , Checked google webmasters health report , and also checked the site with google chromes safe browsing. Not sure why that came up for you GR. Maybe Privacy settings ? But I did have that happen awhile back while using hotspot shield . But havent heard anything of it until now. So with that aside I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong with SEO. Ive done all the basics and just feel that its just not working. One thing I will add , is that I have changed my hosting quite a few times. Im not sure if that will effect my rankings negatively . Any help is appreciated .
420Admin Posted January 19, 2013 Author Posted January 19, 2013 Also here is Nortons Scan report on my website. So if anyone was weary about helping me due to malware I can assure you there is none.
