The article argues that you want to stay within 100 links on a page. There are more than 5 links for each topic row in a forum listing (depending on skin, permissions, etc.) so if you did 20 results per page you would hit 100 - however, there are many many other links on an IP.Board page (the tabs at the top, the footer links, link to the login page and register page, etc. etc.) so if you were to follow this article, without modifying your IP.Board skin, you would have to do 5 results per page or something small like that.

This is a case where you have to balance usability with SEO I think. I think 20-30 is probably best in most cases for usability.

You'd be fine with 1-10. 100 links is just a guide, I also believe Google is smart enough to account for paging separately, but that's just a guess.
