Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Interferon Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 I propose that all actions be listed in a universal activity stream, including status updates, profile comments (these should be merged with status updates), blog posts, downloads, gallery images, everything except forum posts. I notice people often post their stuff in multiple locations in my site. A gallery image will also have a blog, or a download file will have a post in the showcase. I understand people want to make sure their work is seen, and it might slip by unnoticed otherwise, but it seems redundant. I have tried multiple ways of showing all recent content. I tried listing everything in blocks on the main forum page, but it was too much information. I tried the "New content" page with tabs for each section, but people end up never using it, and so everyone posts their stuff in multiple locations to make sure it is seen. If all activity was shown in a stream, I think this would eliminate the need for users to post in multiple places. The stream would act as an announcement that they posted a blog or image or file. I know the user can view all new content with the tabbed page, but what ends up happening is people don't bother looking.
Jinkler Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I like this idea. Like you say, on the VNC, people will only look at the forums tab, I know I do.

Future versions have new features added with every release, coming up is having a list of the activity in the user profile and support for IP.Gallery 4
