The Krotek
I am doing translation of IPB and some of it's applications/hooks on Russian. This is not my first attempt of localization - I was doing it since 2.3.6. So I have some things to discuss. Maybe you'll consider them in the future. First, a simple stuff: don't know why, but string "Licensed to" keeps being hardcoded. However it's quite reasonable to make it editable and translatable. Right now I have to manually add a string to language pack and add a reference in PHP file. Which is of course goes away with each update. Second, more simple stuff: There's no way to translate Help Files public title, which is now application, as I can guess. At least I didn't find where to do so. So in advanced search form it shows untranslated. Third, it seems not possible to move or combine some language tabs in ACP. Right now besides common tabs like "System", "Forums", "Members", "Calendar" and "Gallery" I have some others. For example, I have "Auto Welcome Members" tab with only one language file. It's OK if you have 1-2 extra tabs, but when you got more, there appears a mess - tabs wrap on the second line, which looks awful. So if would be wise to move desired language files from one tab to another. Also would be nice to have untranslated strings moved automatically at the end of the language file. Right now, if you try to edit certain language files in ACP, this can be a pain, because there're sometimes about 15-20 pages of language strings and you have to open them all manually, searching for empty strings. And one more thing... fields with text blocks like email reminders are ridiculously small. I always have to copy text somewhere else, edit it and copy back. So bigger textareas would be great. .Ian
All great ideas - with multiple language sections, the line becomes very long. So anything to reduce this would be great. Is the licensed to: part of the copyright and therefore not supposed to be translated? Appreciate it can be hidden, but just not sure if displayed that it should remain as is. Moving untranslated strings to the end of a search or clicking on a section would be great - even for those of us who only translate a fraction of the file. Fixed for 3.1.1 already Second, more simple stuff: There's no way to translate Help Files public title, which is now application, as I can guess. At least I didn't find where to do so. So in advanced search form it shows untranslated. There's an open bug report on this we have yet to look into. Third, it seems not possible to move or combine some language tabs in ACP. So if would be wise to move desired language files from one tab to another. Each application creates it's own tab. I know what you are getting at, but I don't think there's an easy way to just randomly combine the tabs. We have some ideas for cleaning up the automatic tabbing in IPB in future versions, however. Also would be nice to have untranslated strings moved automatically at the end of the language file. I agree about finding strings to translate. There's an "Outdated strings" button, but I think further improvements could be made. As for the text-area size, that's challenging, simply because of the current design of the page. I don't think textareas could be made much bigger and kept inline as they are now. The Krotek
One more thing: Is there a way to translate "Be the first of your friends to like this" and "Like" button with FB hook enabled? Didn't find a solution myself.

No idea how it corresponds with IPB actually. So localization if this phrase is on FB side? No way to change it manually?
.Ian
the localisation file is within the IPB files - am not in a position to search at the moment, but can find it again in the morning.

If you find anything, please, let me know. I tried to search in IPB distribution files and it returned no results.
