What's a database ?

What does a database consist in ? (how many files ? Location ?...)
Is there something we should know about the IPB database or is it a database just like the others ?

IPB uses a single SQL database.

My install is typical, and its database has 184 tables in it.

You can manipulate the database using phpMyAdmin, mysql via SSH, or within the ACP.

File location depends on the server configuration.

In MySQL every database table consists of at least two files, one for the data, and one for the indexes.
