Posted May 13, 200915 yr The boards comes with a global reCAPTCHA key, what is this key for? Should we get our own unique key?
May 13, 200915 yr The key is used to communicate with reCaptcha. Normally, an API key is restricted to one domain only, but not the default one. I don't think it matter much if you use that one, or make your own. If it did, IPS, and reCaptcha, would required that all user got their own keys.
May 13, 200915 yr From IP.Board 2.3.6 Released: So you can use the default key or get your own, you have the choice. Quote IP.Board 2.3.6 has a special global key for reCAPTCHA shipped with it which enables reCAPTCHA without you having to configure IP.Board at all. You can also go to http://www.recaptcha.net and get your own keys for your own use if you do not want to use our included keys.
May 13, 200915 yr Management The reCAPTCHA team provided the global key you see for IPS to use so they have said it's safe but you can certainly get your own if you wish.
May 13, 200915 yr Author Thanks. I was just worried that since everyone is using the same key, then spammer might use that global key to bypass reCAPTCHA or something.

I was just worried that since everyone is using the same key, then spammer might use that global key to bypass reCAPTCHA or something. I'm not sure how the global key works but reCAPTCHA gave it to us and said it was safe to distribute so must be good :)
