Posted December 19, 200816 yr In IPB 2.x (not sure if it's different in IPB 3.0) you can only restrict usernames using an allow list. I think that there should also be a disallow list, so if you want to disallow only one character you can. I really think it's only logical to include a character disallow list, since some other software has characters they disallow, and with only an allow list integration can sometimes be made more of a pain than it should be.

If you want something like that it would be easier to just allow all the characters you want to allow and leave the ones you don't want to allow, I know that may sound like it will take a while but if theres anyone out there that don't want to upgrade to IP.Board 3 they can just do that or hire someone to make a kind of modification to do this, it saves IPS having to change the code for IP.Board 2.x
December 19, 200816 yr If you want something like that it would be easier to just allow all the characters you want to allow and leave the ones you don't want to allow But what if you want to allow every single Chinese/Japanese character and disallow underscores? That's where the problem is. Then you leave out the underscores in the allow list. I'm suggesting this for 3.x in case it isn't already a feature. if this isnt a feature already they may implement it into future releases.
December 19, 200816 yr Then you leave out the underscores in the allow list. It's not that simple, Chinese and Japanese have literally thousands of characters, it's not logical, reasonable, or sane to have to put that many characters into the allow list.
December 19, 200816 yr In that case, post a feature request for the IPS Development team to maybe implement it into future bug releases etc.

December 19, 200816 yr I have been asking for this kind of control for as long as I care to remember. As things stand the only/best solution is to manually enter each (wildcarded) character into the Ban Filter. Good luck banning the asterix symbol though :P
December 19, 200816 yr That's why I made this thread... Well, I call upon the IPS Develepor gods to take note and implement this feature. Now that I think about it though, I think it maybe a good idea to have an disallow part to do this. SAVES TIME!

Very gracious of you, it's nice to know you approve of his suggestion, and allow it to be seen by the IPS staff, please remind me to run everything by you the next time I have a question too.

LOL I don't work for ips as much as I want to though, just call upon them and hope that they see it LOL
December 20, 200816 yr All suggestions are read and your feedback is always appreciated :) Just don't refer to the developers as Gods, it goes to their heads ;)
