Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
dziner Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Just some feedback, IPS should consider giving 1 year support on new purchases of their product as appose to the current 6 months. There should also be a some kind of discount for customers who opt to pay for a year of support instead of 6 months, I asked about this and I was told that no discount is given but I just want to comment and give my feedback as a new customer. Thanks.
Luke Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 The reason why they do this is pretty strait forward... They renewal cost for 6 months is $25. You don't need support for a year and you need it, so you can rewnew your contract for $25. You don't have to pay the $50 for the year you didn't need support. When you need support and have to renew, would you rather pay a years worth, or 6 months? Most board owners don't need support at all once they're all up and running. Only when something goes wrong and you need them to troubleshoot the problem for you ;)

`Scotty` Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 I always renew when mine expires, it gives me a lot of piece of mind.
Martin A. Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 I only renew to get access to IPSR and IPSR's forums. Which is kind of unfair, as I don't need support, and I don't get much back for giving P2P support.
Luke Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 I only renew when I have to with my standard licenses :D (need support for that particular board). But I always have access to the forums because I have one of those Lifetime licenses :shifty: (no longer available)
`Scotty` Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 But I always have access to the forums because I have one of those Lifetime licenses :shifty: (no longer available) Just updates, you don't get support with the lifetime one, this includes the P2P support (w00t)
sunrisecc Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Just updates, you don't get support with the lifetime one, this includes the P2P support (w00t) Apples and oranges. Lifetime - Yes Perpetual - No Luke referred to lifetime.
Mat Barrie Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Just updates, you don't get support with the lifetime one, this includes the P2P support (w00t) No, we get support AND upgrades (even phone support). Dunno what you're on about.
RobertMidd Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008  No, we get support AND upgrades (even phone support). Dunno what you're on about. Yes we do, IPS have dealt with my support tickets for my lifetime license.
bfarber Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 He was mistaking Perpetual license for Lifetime license. Easy mistake. :)
dziner Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Makes a lot of sense, but if you don't pay for support do you still have access to the IPS forum? anyone?
Mark Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 anyone? You will not have access to customer or peer-to-peer support forums. If you have any other questions, please submit a ticket.
Connor T Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 And don't you need an active support thing to be able to go to Resource area? My renewal runs out on Jan 11, and thanks to IPS they put a nice invoice I have to pay once I figure out paypal bank paying. So an active renewal fee every 6 months gives you Support Upgrades Resource area and that support section Is that all right? Will be board license still be good if I don't pay?

Our licenses do not expire - so yes, you can continue using your board if you do not renew your support. :) Assuming you have a Standard License, your renewal gives you support, upgrades, and access to our various community support and resource areas here and at resources.invisionpower.com. We may, at our discretion, add more value to active licenses in the future through other perks as well. You never know. :)

Dlf Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Actually I recall the year(ly) support price at $30 not 50. Lest that was that for (me anyway) months ago before the half year support.

Lest that was that for (me anyway) months ago before the half year support. $30 per year is for the perpetual license $25 per 6 months is for the standard license Like I said, please ask questions of this nature in a ticket, because otherwise people sometimes get the wrong information.
