Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Worldoversea Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 What I'm trying to accomplish is that if any Member post a picture that is 640x480, it is left untouched. If the picture is bigger than this it will get resized and posted at 640x480. As for right now their is only the use of the percentage. There is no way to set it for a specific width/height. It resizes it based off what the person's resolution is. So for example, if you are using 1024x768, different images will be resized than someone using 1440x900. Some images will wind up smaller than acceptable for viewing and some will be even higher than the 640x480 causing the topic to scroll left all over the place. Would be really outstanding if a prefer resize size could be entered (640x480, etc.) and eliminate all the complaints I was getting. I was forced not to use the percentage resize feature and now the moderators have more work for the Members that have no clue on how to resize and post the proper way. Would really appreciate if you consider this. Thank you, Jim B.
bfarber Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 This is actually only for remotely linked images, and is intended so that user's can't break the layout of the site, moreso than setting image width and height. If images are uploaded locally you can control the thumbnail resolutions.
Worldoversea Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Yes and 99% are remotely being posted. There are too many pictures being posted for me to allow hosting of these pictures taking up all the space, especially when they are large and take them right out of the camera. The sad thing is that a lot of these pics are of installs and valuable information for others. We have configured and offered the optional IPB Gallery feature that takes care of this problem, but only a few are on that paid subscription. Everyone wants a free ride.and is intended so that user's can't break the layout of the site My point exactly, when I set the percentage and a good resized pic gets posted that really should be left alone, it gets knocked down. When different large sizes come in, it's all over the place in size and sometimes not enough of a take down from a picture being so large. If the percentage feature is now being done on the fly, I don't see why it can not be worked out the same way by entering a specific size and under or the same size, it should be left alone. Thank you, JB
iloveipb Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I agree with JB. In mi opinion they shoudn't be a distinction between uploaded photos and remotely link images... I should be able to resize both types to a specific width/height. This could be a request for IPB Version 3.0 Thanks servando
v33 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 This is actually only for remotely linked images, and is intended so that user's can't break the layout of the site, moreso than setting image width and height. If images are uploaded locally you can control the thumbnail resolutions. it doesnt work! i've got my board set at 90% width and the setting doesnt work ... 2000 pixel width image dont resize automatically.
henke37 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 The thing with remote images is that IPB can not know their sizes. And even if it did try to check the size, things would not only get messier in the bbcode engine, it would not work with images who is resized after the check.
JWalker Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 sorry using owners account ... the image resize feature was included for the purpose of resizing externally hosted images. i have not really tested this on phpbb3 but the feature is there with more options for control, like height and width etc., instead of the guessing game method of using percentages.
